Maenadum
Okay I need my head
examined for even thinking about doing this right now when I’ve got so much
other shit going on but I would always rather try and fail than not try at
all. And time is short. And our rage is necessary.
MAENADUM WILL BE OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS
ON SEPTEMBER 23
Maenadum is seeking submissions of verse, poetry, creative non-fiction, art, photography, , short fiction and essays by people who identify on as trans, queer, mad, or neurodivergent, - and especially those who live at the intersection of these identities. Most Especially those who are poor, feel invisible, and are socio-economically challenged, , (We are especially keen on showcasing work from those lacking academic credentials.)
While this is and shall remain, our primary
focus, please understand we will always accept submissions from any oppressed people
of any race, creed, faith, or gender, anywhere.
If you are
doubting if this includes you then it includes you.
We who those are not interested in
assimilating, being assimilated, conforming, or changing ourselves for others.
Give us your polemics, rage against your
oppressors, scream your truth from the mountaintops. All wrapped up in a lovely Myth flavored
wrapper. (For mythology, like dreams and like kink, speaks the language of the
unconscious)
We prefer raw and true to tasteful. We don’t care about the drapes. Track mud on the carpet.
We value your unique perspective over all
other things.
If you are honestly not sure if we will
accept it, send it anyway. Or send us an
email (which we will respond with telling you to send it anyway)
Give us your free, wild and experimental
verse and poetry, send us work that is not afraid to fail.
We will accept We will not accept
Your honest truth you pretending to be
someone you are not
Work by survivors of trauma and abuse lurid descriptions of sexual assault
Almost anything exploitational writings
We will accept pieces featuring homophobic
and transphobic violence, assault and the like provided it comes from a real
life lived experience and you flag it with the appropriate CW and TW There can be power in such unburdening.
Obviously sending us pieces glorifying such will have consequences.
We have great empathy for others who have
suffered institutional and medical violence, trauma, neglect, and
assault/abuse, caregiver abuse, and
abuse by authority figures and want to provide a safe and stable place
for our contributors to express what they need about their lived experiences.
In short, our editorial policies will bend
– considerably – to encourage the sharing and publication of such stories even
when they “too much.”
Share your truths that you don’t think
anyone will take or publish. Share it
the way you want to share it without fear of animosity or ridicule. We will always take your work seriously.
WE especially would like to see experiences
pertaining to lived experiences with
bipolar disorder, BPD, living and coping with PTSD, seasonal and
clinical depression, and work dealing with mood spectrum “disorders.” If you need to have a wordy blow off about
your anxiety disorder, this is the place.
We are not looking for caregiver stories or
perspectives at the present time; no offense but much of the support given to
these conditions in the culture goes to you and not those with the actual
conditions. We find this intolerable.
We don’t want to hear from your parents,
your conservators, your lawyers, or your doctors. We want to hear from you.
