The Maenad's Bone Garden

this is a cool magazine. (Not just, or even because I'm in it. Okay yea that helps but not what I'm talking about. At all.) I started writing the first pieces in this just as the Ishtar Cycle went into preproduction, and I struggled as a non-documented, uninsured person to get a biopsy, or proper diagnosis (let alone treatment) for a visible recently discovered tumor my dentist found in my mouth. I was trapped in an increasingly malfunctioning and toxic relationship that I was nonetheless dependent upon for survival. (ahem...no longer) I was running to the end of a long period of intense self-diagnostic to work through the library stacks like layers of trauma I am working through now with a very good therapist. Some random notes on this relatively pleasant (to me) dark future early evening here in central Seattle. -So congratulate me on this new program I am in. I have a new Chromebook. It's mine to keep. The program is looking like lit might be very good for me; this is a longer subject and would be boring but the last week has been overall a really good one.  The Belladonna Mysteries First of an ongoing neo-noir urban fantasy/horror serial.  Eight segments are already in the can and I'm working on another four.  There is a rough story arc that tightens as it goes along but will come to a satisfactory resolution; there may or may not be more afterward.    The tale is firmly rooted in the packed soil of hard-boiled crime fiction and neo-noir.  A trio of queer women of vastly different ages and backgrounds (and weirdness) finds family amidst the long shadows of the modern urban hellscape...as defined by those who live there.    An often metatextual twist on many classic hard-boiled crime conventions, punk, feminist, and queer as fuck.  I hope you enjoy this prelude and stick around for the slow burn of this sexy, punk rock urban fable.  The first character we shall meet is Mouse, and yes, Mouse is, in part, inspired (with great love and respect) by the works of the incomparable Walter Mosley .   CW:  POV, Revolution, Mental Illness POV, d
